DIGIPIN Standard Grid Tool
National digital addressing layer developed by the Department of Posts, IIT Hyderabad, and ISRO NRSC. High-precision 4x4 spatial subdivision reaching ~3.8m property-level resolution.
Input latitude and longitude within India's bounding envelope (2.5°–38.5° N, 63.5°–99.5° E).
Input a 10-character alphanumeric DIGIPIN code to compute its centroid and boundary limits.
1. Hierarchical 4×4 Grid Partitioning
India is bounded by a 36° × 36° continental spatial envelope. Each parent cell is recursively partitioned into a 4×4 matrix (16 sub-cells) across 10 hierarchical levels.
2. 16-Character Spiral Notation
Uses unambiguous alphanumeric symbols 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, C, J, K, L, M, P, F, T mapped via an inward anti-clockwise spiral, completely eliminating visual confusion (e.g. 0/O, 1/I/l).
3. ~3.8m Ground Resolution
At Level 10, each cell pinpoints a ~3.8m × ~3.8m ground footprint, sufficient to identify specific property gates, building entrances, and rural agricultural plots.
| Grid Level | Code Length | Cell Width / Height | Ground Application Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | 1 char | ~1000 km | Macro Regional Postal Zones |
| Level 3 | 3 chars | ~62.5 km | District / Sub-district Scale |
| Level 6 | 6 chars | ~976 m | Neighborhood / Village Cluster |
| Level 10 | 10 chars | ~3.8 m | Building Entrance / Gate / Property |
