India Post DIGIPIN 4x4 Recursive Subdivision Grid and Spiral Symbols

1. Hierarchical 4×4 Grid Partitioning

India is bounded by a 36° × 36° continental spatial envelope. Each parent cell is recursively partitioned into a 4×4 matrix (16 sub-cells) across 10 hierarchical levels.

2. 16-Character Spiral Notation

Uses unambiguous alphanumeric symbols 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, C, J, K, L, M, P, F, T mapped via an inward anti-clockwise spiral, completely eliminating visual confusion (e.g. 0/O, 1/I/l).

3. ~3.8m Ground Resolution

At Level 10, each cell pinpoints a ~3.8m × ~3.8m ground footprint, sufficient to identify specific property gates, building entrances, and rural agricultural plots.

Grid Level Code Length Cell Width / Height Ground Application Scope
Level 1 1 char ~1000 km Macro Regional Postal Zones
Level 3 3 chars ~62.5 km District / Sub-district Scale
Level 6 6 chars ~976 m Neighborhood / Village Cluster
Level 10 10 chars ~3.8 m Building Entrance / Gate / Property
